Statistic Analysis of Refractive Error(II)

Abstract
Among 27,901 patients seen in the department of ophthalmology, Min Joong Hospital from January 1,1990 to December 31, 1993, there were 3,224 who were seen because of refractive error. These were selected for classification and special statistical
study.
The results were as follows:
3,224(6,356 eyes) out of 27,901 patients seen in the department of ophthalmology had errors in refraction(11.6%) and peak incidence in February(15.1%). The most common type of refractive error was myopia(51.2%0 and 4,752 eyes(74.7%) had
refractive
errors of myopic type 616 eyes(9.8%) were hyperopic. The others had a simple and a mixed astigmatism. The highest incidence of refractive error was found between 10 and 19 years of age. Among the total number of refractive errors, 51.6% were
found
to be
in myopic patients who had less than a -2.00 diopter error. Among the three types of astigmatic error seen, 62.1% were "with the rule", 35.7% were "against the rule" and 2.2% were "oblique". The mean interpupillary distance was 54.5mm under the
age
of
9, 59.3mm between 10 and 19, 61.6mm between 20 and 29, 40 and 49, 61.8mm between 30 and 39 and 61.3mm over 50.
